If you're playing with a true Chinese Mahjong set (without English letters on the tiles), you may find the following tile guide to be of some assistance:

Common Chinese Words

The following Chinese words are typically used when playing Mahjong:

Pong (long "o")Three-of-a-kind. Called out when taking a discarded tile to complete a pung.
Chi ("chur")Run (sequence) of three. Called out when taking a discarded tile to complete a chr.
Gang (like "gong")Four-of-a-kind. Called out when completing a gang.
Jiagang ("jaw-gong")Called out when taking a fourth tile to convert a pong into a gang.
Hule ("hoo-luh")"Finished." Called out when going out with a completed Mahjong hand.

Seat Markers

You may wish to use these markers to denote each seat position in your game.
1. EAST
2. SOUTH
3. WEST
4. NORTH
